Orthodontics for children and adults

Orthodontics for Children

Orthodontics for children can begin as early as age seven. At this age, we can determine if and when orthodontic treatment is necessary. The first permanent molars and incisors have usually come in by that time. In addition, we can evaluate crossbites, crowding, and other problems.

When treatment is begun early, the orthodontist can guide the growth of the jaw and the incoming permanent teeth. Early treatment can also regulate the width of the upper and lower dental arches, gain space for permanent teeth, avoid the need for permanent tooth extractions, reduce the likelihood of impacted permanent teeth, correct thumb-sucking, and eliminate abnormal swallowing or speech problems. In other words, early treatment can simplify later treatment.

Orthodontics for Adults

Orthodontic treatment can be successful at any age, and adults especially appreciate the benefits of a beautiful smile. Our adult patients enjoy seeing dramatic improvements in their appearance and dental health. As with our younger patients, we design a custom treatment plan for excellent results in stability and aesthetics.

Current evidence has shown that well-aligned teeth improve the ability to maintain proper oral hygiene, reduce the incidence of periodontal or gum disease, and actually improve overall periodontal health.
